Weight
It’s common to worry about
weight. However, there is no "right" weight to be. Your body is
healthiest and works best at the weight that is best for your height and age.
Thin Doesn’t Mean
Healthy
The healthiest people in the
world are not thin - check out athletes like Michael Jordan, Ian Thorpe, David
Beckham and Martina Hingis and they certainly are not
thin! Check them out! If you are too thin, your growth hormone
systems shut down, and you don’t grow or go through puberty, and you can
develop brittle bones. Lots of kids diet to lose weight but overdoing it
can be dangerous and can end in the slimmer’s disease
anorexia.
What About
Obesity?
Too much weight (called
obesity) is unhealthy as it can cause heart disease, diabetes, high blood
pressure and other problems later in life. Amazingly 1 in 4 young people are
overweight these days because we do less exercise, spend more time sitting down
watching TV and playing computer games, and eating too much high-in-fat junk
food.
Diets and Controlling
Your Weight
Many young people worry
about being overweight or being too thin. If you eat healthily and do regular
exercise, your body is designed to become the right weight for your height.
Dieting or eating less is not healthy for young people because you may not get
enough protein and vitamins to grow properly.
Tips for Losing Weight
Don’t eat less, eat more healthily.
Do more fun activities, and watch less TV. If you are overweight, most of us find it difficult to do exercise like
jogging. It's much better to do more in
your daily life like taking the stairs instead of the lift, and getting outside
and having fun with your friends.
Grow into your weight. Because you are still growing, you don't have to lose weight to get
thinner. Staying at the same weight and growing taller makes you thinner and more healthy.
